Meet the Instructors

Amelia Wood

My name is Amelia Wood and I will be your student's instructor for the Bobcats in Training Webinars for Science grades K-5. I just finished my third year at UC Merced and work in the CalTeach office as a Student Assistant. I am a Biological Sciences major with an emphasis in Human Biology. I am also minoring in Natural Science Education. My plans after college are to attend Fresno Pacific University and get my teaching credential in High School Biology and Chemistry. I also plan to begin substitute teaching once schools reopen.

I am from Stockton, CA, and have a twin sister who is at CSU Stanislaus. I enjoy cooking, watching movies, and helping my friends and family. I've always had an interest in science and helping others, so I am excited to be working on these virtual workshops this summer!

Mariah Martinez

Hello! My name is Mariah Martinez, and I will be your instructor for the Math and Engineering sections for the BSA Bobcats in Training! I just finished my fourth year at UC Merced and work as a Student Assistant for the CalTeach Program! I am an Applied Mathematics major with an Engineering emphasis, and I also have a minor in Natural Science Education with Teaching Credential. Through my minor, I plan to go to UC Berkeley in Fall 2021 to complete coursework so I can come back to UC Merced and graduate in Spring 2022 with my teaching credential and bachelor's degree in Mathematics. After I graduate, I plan to work on my Master's in Education while being a High School Mathematics teacher.

I love teaching and believe that students are our future. Therefore, I am so excited to be teaching K-12 students this summer. I will also be co-instructing the Middle school and High school sections of our coding BSA program this summer. I am excited to share my interest in Math and Engineering to teach students that not only are they important to learn but fun as well.
