This semester, our CalTeach classes at UC Merced will be taught remotely again but we have modified our fieldwork plan for CalTeach students. We recognize the importance to allow our CalTeach students to work with K-12 students as part of their fieldwork requirements. We also understand that it may be hard for students to complete 30-hours of fieldwork in a virtual classroom. As a response, we have come up with the following model that we think will both make fieldwork meaningful for students while also being feasible for educators as they navigate remote learning in their own classrooms.
Fieldwork Hours Breakdown
- 5 hours- Hours of Mentor Teacher/Mentee collaboration time
- 8 hours- Hours via the Online Bobcat Homework Help
- 17 hours- Videos of classes/lesson plans through Teaching Channel
